Let me start by saying this photo does not do this project justice (good thing I'm a stamper and not a photographer). Anyway, I had recently seen a similar project in a magazine and it reminded me of seeing photos of old butterfly collections where the butterflies are ever so carefully pinned inside a shadow box for study and display. I already had the Beautiful Butterflies Die coming and this was the first thing I made the day my order arrived.
If you'd like to make one yourself it is a very simple and fairly quick project. I started with a square 9" x 9" shadow box frame from Ikea. Cut a sheet of Basic Black Cardstock to fit inside the frame. Cut out 9 butterflies using the Beautiful Butterflies Sizzix Die, exclusive to Stampin' Up! and part of Sheli's Signature Line, and the new Parisian Breeze Specialty Paper. The texture of this paper really makes the butterflies stand up well.
Next I stamped 9 of the square frames from Frames with a Flourish onto Basic Black Cardstock using Basic Black Craft Ink (Versamark would also work). Then added Clear Embossing Powder and set it with a heat gun. Cut each of the frames out.
Adhere each of the stamped frames onto the 9" x 9" piece of Basic Black Cardstock, three across and three down. Place a piece of Sticky Strip on the back of each butterfly, in the center/body. Adhere the a butterfly over each stamped frame. Hold your finger on the center of the butterfly and fold each wing up.
Last add four of the large, white, flat backed pearls from the Pretties Kit as shown.
